What we collect
When you purchase a license, we collect your email address to deliver your license key and manage your license.
Anonymous usage data
MOLTamp sends anonymous usage data on launch and periodically while the app is running (roughly every 5 minutes, piggybacked on update and announcement checks). The data we send is:
- Total session count and number of active days
- App version, operating system, and CPU architecture
- System uptime in minutes (how long your computer has been on, rounded) — not how long MOLTamp has been open
- Counts of installed skins, widgets, and tickers (just the numbers — never the names or contents)
- Whether a license key is present (paid or free status)
- A one-way hash of your machine identity (hostname + username + OS) — only when "Help Improve MOLTamp" is turned on (see below)
We do not collect: your name, file contents, terminal output, code, prompts, keystrokes, browsing history, or any personally identifiable information. Our analytics do not log or retain your IP address. When the machine hash is included, it is a one-way cryptographic digest that cannot be reversed to identify you.
The "Help Improve MOLTamp" toggle (Settings → General). This toggle controls exactly one field: the machine fingerprint described in the last bullet above. When it is on (the default), we include a one-way hash that lets us count unique installs in our admin dashboards. When it is off, the machine hash is stripped from every request. Your aggregate data (version, platform, session count, license status) still flows with update and announcement checks either way — it is used to decide which reminder messages to show you and to keep product-health dashboards (platform and version distribution) accurate. Nothing identifying leaves your computer when the toggle is off.
What the toggle does NOT affect: license validation (which runs on its own independent path regardless of this setting), update and announcement checks (which always run so you hear about new versions), and this privacy policy page (which is public and requires no connection to your install).
Why not opt-in by default? Without a machine fingerprint we can still see that "somebody using arm64 on v2.7.0 launched the app", but we cannot count how many distinct people that represents. Having the fingerprint on by default gives us a realistic install count we use to know whether the product is healthy. Every other field above is intentionally aggregate — we store counts and versions, never identifying or behavioral traces. You can turn off the fingerprint at any time and the app continues to work identically.
License validation
If you have a license key, the app validates it against our server on each launch by sending your email, license key, and machine hash. If our server is unreachable, a signed grace token allows offline use for up to 24 hours.
Payment processing
Payments are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your credit card details. Stripe's privacy policy governs payment data.
Data storage
Your email and license key are stored in our database for license management. Anonymous usage data is stored in aggregate for product analytics. We do not share, sell, or rent your information to anyone.
Community content
If you upload skins, widgets, or other content to the MOLTamp community marketplace, that content is publicly visible. Your display name and any comments you post are also public.
Data retention
License data is retained for the lifetime of your license. Anonymous usage data is retained for up to 12 months for product analytics purposes. You may request deletion of your personal data (email and license records) at any time by emailing [email protected].
International users (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or Switzerland, the following applies:
- Legal basis: We process your email address based on contractual necessity (license delivery). Anonymous usage data is processed based on our legitimate interest in improving the product.
- Your rights: You have the right to access, correct, delete, or port your personal data. You may also object to processing or request restriction. To exercise these rights, email [email protected].
- Data transfers: Data is processed on Cloudflare infrastructure, which may involve transfers outside the EEA. Cloudflare maintains appropriate safeguards for international transfers.
Children's privacy
MOLTamp is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected information from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly.
Third-party services
MOLTamp uses Stripe for payment processing and Cloudflare for hosting and data storage. These services have their own privacy policies that govern their handling of your data. We do not share your data with any other third parties.
Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of MOLTamp after changes constitutes acceptance.
